How Amazon's 75-character title rule works
Since 27 July 2026, product titles in every Amazon category except media (such as books, music and video) must be 75 characters or fewer, including spaces. Amazon announced the change on its Seller Forums in June 2026. At the same time it added Item Highlights: up to 125 more characters for details such as materials and recommended use cases. Amazon says Item Highlights are searchable and appear with the title in search results and on the product page.
Titles still over the limit are being replaced, gradually, with Amazon's AI-recommended title. Your listing stays live, but the wording becomes Amazon's choice rather than yours. Brand owners get 14 days to review, change or approve each recommendation on Seller Central's Review Listings Changes page. Read the full story in our guide to what changed with Amazon's 75-character title limit.
What this checker tests
- • Length. Every character counts, spaces included, against the 75 limit.
- • Characters Amazon disallows: ! $ ? _ { } ^ ¬ ¦. These are allowed only as part of a brand name, so enter your brand and the checker ignores them inside it.
- • Context-only characters: ~ # < > *. Amazon allows these only in specific contexts, such as a model number or measurement, so they're flagged for you to check.
- • Decorative symbols and emoji, which Amazon doesn't allow.
- • Repeated words. No word more than twice. Prepositions, articles and conjunctions (“for”, “the”, “and”) don't count.
- • Promotional wording such as “free delivery” or “100% quality guaranteed”.
- • Style checks, marked “Check” or “Tip” rather than “Fix”: subjective claims like “best seller”, ALL CAPS, all lower case, and whether the title starts with your brand.
- • Item Highlights. A 125-character counter, plus tips on writing short, comma-separated phrases that don't repeat your title.
Some categories have extra style rules of their own, so treat a pass as a strong sign rather than a guarantee.
When your title is too long
Paste a title over 75 characters and the checker suggests a shorter version. It takes out the wording it flagged, keeps the front of the title up to a natural break such as a comma or “with”, and lists the rest as phrases to move into Item Highlights. It's a simple rule of thumb, so read the result and make sure the words shoppers search for most are still in the title. For 12 worked examples across DIY, kitchen, pet, garden and beauty products, see the Item Highlights before-and-after examples.
Selling through Linnworks?
Linnworks' own help article says Amazon rejects a revision sent from Linnworks while the title is over 75 characters, and that Linnworks doesn't shorten titles for you. It also says Item Highlights aren't currently supported through Linnworks, so they have to be added in Seller Central.
Ecom Wizard is a Linnworks App Store app. It flags the Amazon titles over 75 characters on the products you're selling, rewrites them in batches for you to review, and writes the approved titles back to the matching Linnworks product by SKU. When it writes a full Amazon listing, the Item Highlight is saved on the Linnworks product for reference, ready to paste into Seller Central, because Linnworks can't send it to Amazon yet. Frequently asked questions
What is the character limit for Amazon product titles?
Since 27 July 2026, Amazon product titles in every category except media (such as books, music and video) must be 75 characters or fewer, including spaces.
Do spaces and punctuation count towards the 75 characters?
Yes. Amazon’s limit is 75 characters including spaces. This checker counts every character you paste, including spaces, commas and hyphens, so double spaces are worth removing.
How long can an Amazon Item Highlight be?
Up to 125 characters. Amazon describes it as space for details such as materials and recommended use cases. It is searchable and shown with the title in search results and on the product page. Short phrases separated by commas tend to read best.
Which characters are not allowed in Amazon titles?
Amazon does not allow ! $ ? _ { } ^ ¬ ¦ in titles unless they are part of the brand name. The characters ~ # < > * are only allowed in specific contexts, and decorative symbols are not allowed.
Is this Amazon title checker free?
Yes. It is free, needs no sign-up and runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you type is sent or saved. If you want to fix a whole catalogue at once, Ecom Wizard has a 7-day free trial with 20 listings and no card required.
Will a title that passes this checker definitely be accepted by Amazon?
Not always. The checker tests the length limit and Amazon’s general title rules, but some categories have their own style guides. Treat a pass as a strong sign, and check Seller Central for your category.
