Linnworks and Amazon's 75-Character Title Limit: How to Fix Failed Revisions in Bulk

Last updated

If you list on Amazon from Linnworks, you may have seen revisions failing since 27 July 2026. One cause Linnworks has flagged is the title: Amazon now requires product titles of 75 characters or fewer, and Linnworks won't shorten them for you. This guide explains why it happens, how to fix it by hand, and how to fix hundreds of titles at once without leaving your Linnworks workflow.

The short answer

Linnworks says Amazon rejects a revision sent from Linnworks when the title is over 75 characters, spaces included (media categories are exempt), and Linnworks doesn't shorten titles for you. Shorten the Amazon title on the Linnworks product, then revise the listing to Amazon again. For more than a handful of SKUs, find and rewrite them in bulk.

The symptom: Amazon revisions from Linnworks failing

You update a product in Linnworks and revise it to Amazon, and the revision fails. The listing is still live, but your changes haven't gone through. It might be one SKU or hundreds, often older listings written before the limit came in.

Linnworks' own help article on the change says that if you revise an Amazon listing from Linnworks after 27 July 2026 and the title is still over 75 characters, Amazon will reject that revision, and it keeps failing until the title is shortened.

Why it happens

One nuance: Amazon's developer documentation on modular titles (updated September 2026) says its listings API still accepts titles over 75 characters, and Amazon may split them into a title and Item Highlights itself. So a long title isn't the only possible reason a revision fails: check the error on the failed revision. Either way, a title over 75 characters is one Amazon may rewrite, so shortening it yourself keeps the wording in your hands.

Want to know where a title stands before you revise it? Paste it into our free Amazon title checker for an instant character count. Our guide to Amazon's 75-character title rules covers the change in full, and if Amazon has already changed yours, see what to do when Amazon rewrites your title.

The manual fix (fine for a handful of SKUs)

Linnworks' recommended steps are:

  1. 1Open the product in Linnworks, or update your listings using an import.
  2. 2Shorten any Amazon listing titles over 75 characters (spaces count) and save.
  3. 3Revise the listing to your Amazon channel again.

You can also do it the other way round: edit the title in Seller Central (Manage All Inventory, then Edit, where View enhancements shows Amazon's suggested title and Item Highlights), then use Linnworks' Extract Inventory to pull the updated titles back into Linnworks so the two stay in step.

Two things to check. Titles are stored per channel in Linnworks, so if you sell on more than one Amazon account, shorten each one. And Linnworks' older article on changing an Amazon title says the Amazon title is edited in the Listing Descriptions section of Edit Item, and that it can only be changed from Linnworks if the product was listed through Linnworks (so the listing has a template). If yours was created somewhere else, editing it in Seller Central is the safer route.

The manual route works, but it doesn't scale. Every title needs real thought, because cutting to 75 characters means deciding which keywords stay. Doing that for hundreds or thousands of SKUs by hand takes days.

The bulk fix with Ecom Wizard

Ecom Wizard is an app on the Linnworks App Store. It reads your Linnworks catalogue, finds the long Amazon titles, rewrites them with AI, and writes the approved versions back onto your Linnworks products. Here's the workflow:

  1. 1

Install from the Linnworks App Store and connect

Find Ecom Wizard in the Linnworks Application Store, install it and authorise the connection. Our Linnworks setup guide walks through each screen.

  2. 2

Run Listing Health to find the long Amazon titles

Listing Health scans the channel titles and descriptions of the products you have sold in the last 30 days, 90 days or 12 months, and flags Amazon titles over 75 characters (plus missing or very short titles and thin descriptions). Filter to Amazon over 75 chars, narrow by channel or search by SKU.

  3. 3

Tick the listings and rewrite them in a batch

Select up to 25 listings at a time and choose Optimise selected. The AI writes a new Amazon title of 75 characters or fewer, plus an improved description, using the product's own Linnworks data (its brand, attributes and the richest description it already has on any channel). It is told never to invent specs, sizes or compatibility.

  4. 4

Review, edit and send back to Linnworks by SKU

Every suggestion shows a live character count. Edit anything you like, untick any you don't want, then send. Ecom Wizard finds the product by SKU and writes the new title and description onto that exact Amazon channel on the Linnworks product, replacing what was there, so check the description as well as the title. Other channels are left alone.

  5. 5

Revise the listings to Amazon from Linnworks

Ecom Wizard updates your Linnworks products; it doesn't send anything to Amazon itself. Revise the listings to your Amazon channel from Linnworks as you normally would. Whether a revision picks up the new title depends on how your Amazon listings are set up in Linnworks (see the template note above), so revise a few SKUs first and check the new titles show on Amazon before doing the rest.

Want to fix the whole Amazon listing, not just the title?

Click any row in Listing Health to open that SKU's listing editor. It runs a full Amazon health check (title, Item Highlight, bullet points, backend keywords and description), can write the missing parts, and saves them to the product: the title and description on the Amazon channel, and the bullets, Item Highlight and keywords as extended properties. Check those property names match the ones your Amazon listing template uses.

Each AI rewrite uses one listing credit, and the free trial includes 20. Writing new listings rather than fixing old ones? Our guide to AI listings for Linnworks covers sending complete Amazon, eBay, Shopify and B&Q listings onto your products by SKU, and the Linnworks integration page lists everything it syncs.

Item Highlights: an honest note

Alongside the shorter title, Amazon added an Item Highlights field: up to 125 extra characters for details such as materials or recommended uses. Amazon says it is searchable and shown below the title in search results and on the product page, so it's the natural home for the detail that no longer fits in 75 characters. Amazon's documentation also says an Item Highlight can only be added once the title is 75 characters or fewer, so shorten the title first.

The catch for Linnworks sellers: Linnworks' help article (last updated 16 July 2026) says Item Highlights are only available in Amazon Seller Central and aren't yet supported in Linnworks, and that Amazon is still confirming API support. Check that article for updates.

A worked example

Here is the kind of title that fails today, and a version that fits. The product and brand are made up.

Before: 129 characters, over the limit

Heavy Duty Stainless Steel Toilet Roll Holder Wall Mounted with Shelf for Bathroom, Screw or Self Adhesive Fixing, Brushed Finish

After: 64 characters

YourBrand Toilet Roll Holder with Shelf, Brushed Stainless Steel

Item Highlight (add in Seller Central): 69 characters

Wall Mounted, Heavy Duty, Screw or Self-Adhesive Fixing, for Bathroom

Nothing from the original is lost and nothing new is invented: the title keeps the brand, product type and the details shoppers compare, and the mounting, fixing method and room move into the Item Highlight.

Frequently asked questions

Why are my Amazon revisions from Linnworks failing?

Since 27 July 2026 Amazon has required product titles of 75 characters or fewer, including spaces, in every category except media. Linnworks says that if you revise an Amazon listing from Linnworks and its title is still over 75 characters, Amazon rejects that revision. Linnworks does not shorten titles for you, so older long titles keep failing until you shorten them. Check the error on the failed revision to confirm the title is the cause.

Does Linnworks shorten Amazon titles automatically?

No. Linnworks’ help article on the change says Linnworks does not automatically shorten or modify your titles. You need to shorten them on the product yourself (by hand, with an import or with an app) and then revise the listing to Amazon again.

Will my Amazon listing go offline if the title is over 75 characters?

No. Amazon and Linnworks both say the listing stays active. The revision fails until the title is shortened, and Amazon will gradually replace titles that are still over 75 characters with its own AI-recommended title. Brand owners get 14 days to review those suggestions in Review Listing Changes.

Can I send Amazon Item Highlights from Linnworks?

Not at the moment. Linnworks’ help article (last updated 16 July 2026) says Item Highlights are only available in Amazon Seller Central and are not yet supported in Linnworks, while Amazon confirms API support. Ecom Wizard saves the Item Highlight it writes on your Linnworks product for reference, but you need to add it to Amazon yourself in Seller Central. Amazon only accepts an Item Highlight once the title is 75 characters or fewer, so shorten the title first.

How do I shorten hundreds of Amazon titles in Linnworks at once?

Linnworks suggests updating titles with an import. Alternatively, Ecom Wizard’s Listing Health check lists the Amazon titles over 75 characters on products that have sold in the last 30 days, 90 days or 12 months. It rewrites up to 25 at a time, lets you review each one, then writes the approved titles onto the matching Linnworks products by SKU. You then revise the listings to Amazon from Linnworks.

Does the 75 characters include spaces and the brand name?

Yes. Amazon counts every character in the title, including spaces. If your brand name is in the title, it counts towards the 75 as well.

Does Ecom Wizard change my stock, prices or orders in Linnworks?

No. It reads your orders (for sales figures and to know which products are selling) and writes listing content to your products. It never changes stock levels, prices or fulfilment.

Is it free to try?

Yes. There is a 7-day free trial with 20 listings and no card required. Each AI rewrite uses one listing. Paid plans start at £49 a month ex-VAT.
